#239 Did curiosity kill the cat?

I would say I have always been curious and was recently thinking about the expression, “Curiosity killed the cat”. Quite naturally I thought of the IB Learner Profile attribute of inquirers defined as, “We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning.”

Whilst the phrase’s modern usage reminds us to not to try to find out about something which does not concern us, it should be noted that the original phrasing (‘Care killed a cat’) was quite different whereby care meant worry.

So rather than inquisitiveness, it was worrying that caused the downfall. (For further details, see The Interesting Meaning and History of the Phrase ‘Curiosity Killed the Cat’)

So whilst curiosity may not have killed the cat, it seems to me that curiosity and sustaining our love of learning is key to developing, “internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world” (taken from the IB Learner Profile).

On that note, sharing some wonderful quotes pertaining to curiosity.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend of continued curiosity and lifelong learning !
