I came across a post (I can’t recall if it was on Twitter or Linkedin) in which the author referenced the ABIDE Principles.

Mindful that this was the first time I saw the phrase and that education is full of acronyms, I was intrigued to learn what was meant by ABIDE principles.

The author identified the ABIDE Principles as follows:

  • Authenticity

  • Belonging

  • Inclusion

  • Diversity

  • Equity/Equality

And shared that this is the lens through which they look at prospective employers. They look at a company and leadership team which - in order to do better for all within the organization as well as those whom the organization serves - values and upholds these principles.

I very much appreciate that the ABIDE Principles goes beyond DEIJ (admittedly, there are many - due to their fondness for Star Wars - who prefer the JEDI acronym) or DEIB and explicitly includes authenticity.
