#254 Reflection

The last few days have been a gentle reminder that so much is out of our control

I was due to be in Athens attending the ECIS Inclusive Education Conference.

However, the airport was closed on Thursday due to strikes following the deadly train crash at the end of February (DW, Protests, strikes over train crash paralyze Greece).

I was very much looking forward to the conference as it brought together two passions, admissions and inclusion.

At the beginning of the week, I had envisaged that today’s blog post would reflect on the two days of learning at the ACS Athens.

However, that was not to be.

I am grateful that ECIS - despite the short notice - was able to livestream the keynotes and closing panel for those unable to be there in person and look forward to a future on-line event for those of us unable to be there in person.

I especially appreciated Nicole Demos’ inspiring keynote, Just Say it, ‘Disability’. She shared her experiences and passionately advocates for us to create communities that don’t simply welcome students, but ensure that they feel safe and supported during the whole schooling journey from admissions, to enrollment and beyond. I also enjoyed the closing panel, hosted by Courtney Knight. I was very much struck by the passion amongst the panellists. I can’t wait to see how inclusive education will continue to evolve and be truly inclusive in international schools.
