#213 Values
I have always appreciated how themes - often emerging from a variety of sources - converge.
Giving pause for thought.
A push to explore more deeply.
Or simply bringing clarity to the fore.
This week the notion of values has been a prominent theme for me.
On Monday, I attended a webinar entitled, Starting your schools trauma informed approach (hosted by the Witherslack Group) and was constantly reminded of how supporting students who are experiencing or have experienced trauma, is not only an imperative, but most successful when the values of the organization do not look simply at the academics but embraces the whole child (and faculty and staff or that matter) so as to best serve and support them.
During this week’s 2022 Virtual FORUM/Diversity: Multifaceted Approaches to Inclusion and Belonging (hosted by Carney Sandoe and Associates) both Austin Channing Brown in her keynote address and Dr. Tiffany Bridgewater in her presentation entitled, What's Next?: Identifying Essential Habits of Inclusive Schools During and After COVID-19, reiterated how values - when authentically acted upon - drive change within schools.
Yesterday I listened to Brené Brown’s latest Unlocking Us Podcast, Living into our Values. The episode reiterated the importance of examining one's values and behaviours and how they are intrinsically linked.
Shortly thereafter in last night’s Better Leaders Better Schools Mastermind session, our focus was - as part of a discussion of Bauer’s MasterMind: Unlocking Talent Within Every School Leader (2021) - on leadership values and how they manifest within the school setting.
Each weekday I receive a quote of the day from passiton.com.
Today’s quote from Idowu Koyenikan is timely.
As I continue to look for a position in a school where the vision, mission, aims, values and philosophy resonate deeply, the notion of values being a compass to guide me speaks to me
