Self-care for Educators

The beginning of the school year is (or, at least, can be) a highly stressful time.

In my May 30, 2019 Kindness and Compassion blogpost, I shared that “... I always perceive the last month of school to be like the spin cycle on the washing machine. The end of the year approaches. Items on the to do list grow. The time in which to do said items decreases. Consequently, it is quite easy to feel more pressured and frenetic…”.

I would contend that pressure (albeit somewhat different) is also there with final preparations prior to the first day of school. The pressure (along with excitement and anticipation for the forthcoming school year) is likely to be intensified if changing classrooms, grade level, schools, education systems, countries etc.,.

The image below is not rocket science, but serves as a reminder of some ways educators (and anyone for that matter) can engage in self-care generally, and not just during more stressful times.
