#224 Meaningful May
This week’s blog title is, admittedly, taken from this month’s Action for Happiness calendar.
As I highlighted in my blogpost entitled Altruistic August, Action for Happiness hosts various webinars and events and each and every month shares a calendar based on a theme pertaining to various aspects of wellbeing. Recent examples include Self-care September, Optimist October, New Ways November, Do Good December, Happier January, Friendly February, Mindful March and Active April.
Every month these calendars (available in a multitude of languages including Amharic, Catalan, Euskera, Icelandic, Mongolian, Ukranian and Welsh) give us a host of great ideas to be #HappierKinderTogether for the benefit of us as individuals and our communities at large.
This month’s calendar, Meaningful May, is accompanied by this quote from William James:
"Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does."
The quote resonates and makes me think of the following quotes with regards to the meaningful impact of our actions on our local and global communities.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
~ Margaret Mead
“Do your little bit of good where you are;
it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world”
~ Desmond Tutu
“Ask yourself - Have you been kind today?
Make kindness your daily modus operandi and change your world”
~ Annie Lennox
“When we feel love and kindness toward others,
it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.”
~ Dalai Lama
“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions,
and the roots spring up and make new trees.”
~ Amelia Earhart
Wishing you a wonderful month ahead and, if you enjoyed this post, please share with someone you know!
