Robin Sharma’s quote, “Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It’s about impact, influence, and inspiration” and John Maxwell’s, “Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another” are ones that resonate.



Both Linda Cliatt-Wayman’s 2015 TED Talk, How to fix a broken school? Lead fearlessly, love hard, and Rita Pierson‘s 2013 TED Talk, Every kid needs a champion, are wonderful examples of leaders impacting, influencing, and inspiring faculty and students alike. Both reiterate the importance of making a connection and having high expectations.

During the summer, I enjoyed - as shared in my July 23, 2020 blogpost entitled Pearls of Wisdom - The Principals’ Training Center’s Pearls of Wisdom series. Two standout presentations were given by Tambi Tyler and Erin Robinson. Respectively they highlighted the importance of developing empathy in leadership and the importance of looking through the cultural lens and being aware of personal and professional intersections on leadership. Both of these Pearls of Wisdom (and many others) proved to impact, influence and inspire participants from around the world.



I have had the good fortune to work with a number of excellent leaders who have proven to impact, influence and inspire those (including me) whom they work with and those they lead. In reflecting on those I wish to emulate/model my leadership on (and those whose leadership style did not sit well with me), I am reminded of this oft-shared image:
