#151
As referenced multiple times before, I believe in the importance of lifelong learning and as such continue to challenge myself personally and professionally. With regard to education, this is both in general terms and with specific focus on areas of particular interest including, but not limited to Admissions, Leadership, Learning Differently, School Culture, Social Justice, and Third Culture Kids (TCK).
One of the silver linings of Lockdown and the ongoing repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic is that there has been a multitude of opportunities for online personal and Professional Development.
I have always sought and continue to seek to expand my knowledge and skill set. Recent examples are as follows:
Attending some wonderful Professional Development sessions recently such as Jared Cooney Hovarth’s From the Brain to the Classroom and Elena Aguilar’s Intro to Transformational Coaching.
The PTC’s series in June and July was incredible in terms of both content and delivery with significant takeaways from each and every one (see blog post: Pearls of Wisdom)
Joining The Mastermind at Better Leaders Better Schools which includes a focus on reading texts which are not education based, yet have great relevance to education and leadership in the education field. Examples of recent texts include How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi (see blog post: How to be an Antiracist) and The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek (see blog post: The Infinite Game). Our current shared text is Radical Candor: How To Get What You Want By Saying What You Mean by Kim Scott.
Enrolling in various courses through FutureLearn. Most recently, I completed the University of Groningen’s Multilingual Practices: Tackling challenges and creating opportunities which proved to be very rewarding and look forward to others such as the University of Newcastle Australia’s Anthropology: Understanding Societies and Cultures, Cardiff University’s Working with Translation: Theory and Practice and Sung Kyun Kwan University’s The Korean Alphabet: An Introduction to Hangeul.
In addition to some quotes shared early this year in the post, Lifelong Learning ~ Some Favourite Quotes [Blogpost 105], I offer these additional ones pertaining to lifelong learning.
My continued focus on lifelong learning is always with the view to best serve those within our school community.
Does the concept of lifelong learning, both personally and professionally, resonate with you?
