Summer vacation is almost over!
With summer vacation almost over, it is good to look back and reflect on the last few weeks away from the office. With my daughter on crutches for the last nine weeks, this summer vacation has been, to say the least, quite different. In all respects, it has been very low key with no travelling beyond “going home” and thus much less galavanting around than usual.
In my Summer vacation is finally here! post from June 20, 2019, I shared a timely reminder about the importance to take the summer to indulge in self care which included:
Taking the time to be …
Taking the time to decompress, relax, and rejuvenate ...
Taking the time to do nothing, do anything, do everything ...
Taking the time to be inspired ...
Taking the time to be creative …
Taking the time to take care of the little things ...
Taking the time to be ambitious ...
Taking the time to create memories ...
As a result of less galavanting around, I have had time to be (a precious commodity which is much appreciated!), a lot of time to sleep (well, truth be told, to have afternoon naps on an almost daily basis), take care of little things (those that don’t take much time, but are so much easier when in the same time zone), read (both reading for pleasure and professional reading), reflect on professional practice over the year and set intentions for this upcoming school year, move my blog to Wix’s new blog format (easy to do, posts transferred with minimal loss of formatting; however, while there are some great features on the new format, I miss some of features in the previous format), binge watch Netflix and other movies (almost goes without saying), and - most importantly - connect with and enjoy the company of friends and family. We have drawn on familiar traditions and also created new ones, the memories of which will sustain us through the first few days back in KL when jet lag will (no doubt) be our new best friend.
While I am physically away from the office, I have spent a few hours each and every day emailing/Skyping and more, and thus - in some ways - feel as if I have not really been away, but simply working “part time from a remote location”. Despite having had time (never enough!) to decompress, relax and rejuvenate, I suspect (as I think is always the case) I will feel I will need a vacation once back home in Kuala Lumpur. Fortunately, in Malaysia, public holidays (per my post September 2018 post, A Brief Overview of our Host country) are never very far away.
So, as the summer vacation draws to an end, what are your reflections?
