When we think of role models, we often think of those we see from afar, such as Malala, Mandela, or MLK, or those with whom we live and work closely and see on a daily or almost daily basis.

I have, for many years, been an admirer of Michael Rosen’s work and view him, more than ever, as a role model. In addition to having a distinguished career as a lecturer, author, radio presenter and someone who fights for social justice, he has - after a near death experience and many weeks in a coma - been very vocal in the press and on social media about Covid and the effects thereof on individuals and society at large.

When I think of Michael Rosen, I think of an insatiable curiosity from an erudite man who cherishes life-long learning (very evident in his BBC Radio4 Word of Mouth programmes), an articulate communicator (evident in presentations such as Professor Michael Rosen on reading for pleasure and Michael Rosen performs We're Going on a Bear Hunt) and - with regard to recent comments about Covid-19, social justice issues and more - a principled, open-minded, and caring individual. I realize that these attributes which I most admire compare directly with those of the IB Learner Profile. I invite you, during this time where introspection and reflection seems more prevalent, to consider those whom you admire and those who inspire you to be your best self.
