Change, Uncertainty, and Opportunity [#122]

While we have adjusted to the ‘new normal’ and have new routines in place at home to accommodate balancing the demands of work and home, it seems to me that self-awareness is even more important than ever before.

Multiple examples in private conversations, in the media, on social media, and in professional publications reference people’s routines and daily practices (the ‘change’, per Cuban’s quote) so as to keep grounded as well as - despite the uncertainty - examples of people digging deep to enact personal and/or professional growth, reaching out to others and engaging in random acts of kindness and more (the ‘opportunity’, per Cuban’s quote).

Tom Foolery’s video, The Great Realisation, is short (four minutes) and resonates deeply in both the format and delivery regarding change, uncertainty, and opportunity. I especially appreciate the lines, “... and the Earth began to breathe” and “... we all preferred the world we found to the one we’d left behind.” It is only by ensuring that we are in a good place (socially, emotionally and physically), that we are then able to help each other in the here and now and beyond as we all navigate the changes, the uncertainties, and opportunities. Mindful of the safety announcement on airplanes of putting on one’s oxygen mask first before helping others, it is important to reiterate that during these times of uncertainty and opportunity caring, for oneself is not selfish, but rather a necessity. Thus, it seems apt to share this infographic entitled, Take Care of You: 5 Quick Ways to Practice Self-Care Right Now-Infographic. Of course this is with the caveat that local lockdown restrictions may impact the ability to go outside and exercise and, at present, being social is more likely to be virtual via Google, Skype, WeChat WhatsApp, or Zoom than face-to-face.

Stay safe, stay well!
