Classroom expectations

I love how this image (shared on Edutopia’s Facebook page March 25, 2019) is relevant to all learning environments regardless of the age of the students, the subject matter or the location. With - at least in the Northern Hemisphere - the new school year having just begun or about to begin, it’s apt to share this today as intentions are set for this school year. I appreciate that it was posted with the tag, “Because every day is a good day to reinforce your classroom culture”, thus reiterating expectations and culture can not be addressed simply on the first day, but on an ongoing basis.

While we understand the art and science of teaching, these six elements help create a positive, meaningful, and authentic learning experience for all throughout the school year and beyond. They remind me and reiterate key elements of some previous blog posts:

Have a vision

Be a learner, not a finisher

* Iceberg (September 3, 2017)

Lean into struggle

* Mindset (September 6, 2018)

* Trust (March 14, 2018)

Feed your passion

* Passion (March 7, 2019)

Own your education * Professional Development (November 1, 2018)

Own our culture

* Dr. King (January 17, 2019)

* Kindness (December 27, 2018)

* Caring (December 9, 2018)

Do these classroom expectations resonate? Do you have other expectations that would better help create a positive, meaningful, and authentic learning experience for all?
